    Hi everyone,

All it took was a simple email from Gene (Gandorf's dad) and we now have no need to shrink any pictures that you want to upload.
He let me know about a modification to the software that will do all of this shrinking stuff automatically.

The file size limit to upload is set to 2MB. (will be resized and shrunk)

Please let me know if any issues arise!

:hmm: still doesn't help a lot of us though... Even the jpg's off my 10MP Leica P&S are larger than 2MB, and the JPG's off my new 7D are 5+ MB without resizing.

It seems to work fine, even for photos I've uploaded via a link to my Flickr account. When I first uploaded a large size photo file, it displayed the photo at that large size. When I went back to view the thread 3 minutes later, it had been "shrunk" and a small tag indicating this was appended to the top of the photo.

Yep, Gandorf was sitting here with me last night reading posts and seeing the problems some were having with uploading their pictures and he woofed at me and said "help them out since you know what they need!". It is up to the hosting company to raise the 2mb upload limit (with a little sweet talk from an admin they can raise it if they want to) but the majority of users won't have pics larger than that anyway and others can just set their cameras to take smaller pics.

Yay, Ryan!!! It's hard to even buy a P&S camera under 10MP these days, and who would want to purposely shoot smaller file sizes? Then we might as well all just shoot with cell phones.<g>

    Thank you VERY much!!!

Okay, so this is just a test for me. I don't care so much about having to resize photos as that is quick and easy. I hate having to upload everything to flickr and then move it over to the forum. It keeps me from posting more photos as it takes so much time to do so. So, let's see . . .

WOW!!!!! finally I can post pictures directly!!! THANKS!!!

Another tip if you have not figured this out yet - when there are multiple pics in a post just click on any pic and when the larger one comes up scroll your mouse inside the pic and a "Next" and "Prev" will pop up on the top right or left, click on that and you are off to the next pic - no need to keep going back to the post, when done viewing just hit "Esc" on your keyboard or click outside the pic and you are back to the post.

    Karen,
Just so you know (and I am not trying to be argumentative here) a cameras MP (megapixel) has nothing to do with the file size. A 10 MP camera can take just about any file size pics that you want and will look perfectly clear in a small file size. If you were to take a 8mb picture that would probably print out just fine at 20" x 20". When it comes to the web "smaller is better" as you can imagine how long it would take to load those large pics for some folks on slower connections (like cell phones) and forums need to conserve their web storage space also. To prove what I mean upload a pic from your camera here on the forum that you actually know the file size (in windows locate the pic file and hold the cursor over it and read the file size when it pops up at the bottom in mb or kb) that is 2mb or above and then see what it looks like in the larger view after being resized here by the forum and read the new smaller file size at the bottom of the larger pic here on the forum, you will see it shows just as clear as the big one on your computer. You can also Google "megapixels vs file size" for more info. Hope that helps.
