Hi. I"m Keith. I just joined the forum. I have been exploring purchasing a Havanese puppy for the last year. I have finally committed and began looking for a reputable breeder. I am interested in owner/handling my dog. I was very involved with showing dogs many years ago (large breeds), and want to begin again the hobby I enjoyed so much.
I met a Havanese a few years ago and was smitten. I attended the Meet the Breed event in NY and got a few leads on breeders.
I live in Brooklyn, NY, but also spend a great deal of time in Florida.
I am looking for a female puppy on the smaller side. I'm partial to some colors but very open as I believe personality and the breeders recommendation will have great weight in my decision.
I had a good conversation with Tim from T-Wags Havanese which is near Tampa. Is anyone familiar with T-Wags Havanese?
Thanks
Keith

Welcome to HT Keith! Good luck in finding the perfect Havanese. From what I've seen many breeders are protective of their show females so it'll be important to find a responsible breeder you really feel good working with and spend some time establishing a good relationship with them. Are you wanting to show and breed your female?

I want to train and show. Breeding would be something to consider down the line depending on whether my dog would be worthy of breeding. It is not my goal at the moment.

Welcome to HT Keith. Being in NY you should go to Westminster next month, you will get to see a lot of different breeders dogs and visit them in the benching area. Good luck in your search.

I plan to attend Westminister next month. I have attended for past two years as I have contemplated bringing a dog into my life again. Isn't there also Havanese Dog show next month on February 11 at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC? I have it on my calendar and planned to attend.

I think meeting breeders at dog shows is a great idea. The only thing I would caution you on is looking for small when you want to show and breed. I think the first concern should be the health of any line. Keep us posted especially when puppy pictures are involved!

Yes in fact that one you should be able to meet a lot of breeders, wish I was going I hear they always have such a great time at that event.
